“I love me a Faustian tale –
Life seems to be
A series of choices we make,
Deal or no deal
With our devils/gods”
— Anjkan – Queen of Cups
“and  this card,
Which is blank,
is something
he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see.
I do not find
The Hanged Man.
Fear death by water.”
— T. S. Eliot, “The Waste Land”
Gods and Devils
Know what they bring
Kings and Queens
Not what they seem
One by one
The Kings appear
Cards are dealt
The Devils leer
Careful Queens
Watch the Kings
For Luck may change
The cards She brings
Kings will win
But also lose
Changing luck
May help Queens too
We know the price
It takes to play
Bet your life
And then you pray
The Game goes on
Deals are made
The Devil bets
Will we be brave
These Kings & Queens
They’re almost gods
They’re so intense
They defy the odds
“Musing upon the king
my brother’s wreck
And on the king
my father’s death”
— T. S. Eliot,  “The Waste Land”
Kings have come
And Kings will go
The cards are dealt
While life still flows
For every King
The stakes are high
For win or lose
We all will die
Winning streaks
We’re seldom on
Raise your bets
Til all is gone
When cards run out
New decks are opened
Luck can change
Streaks be broken
Change the game
Change the rules
Change your luck
But watch the Fools
A King alone
Who’s lost his way
Is flying blind
And gone astray
His deal’s gone bad
His center’s gone
It feels so sad
To sing his song
But life goes on
Soon we’ll forget
Suicide kings
And their bad bets
“Who is the third
who walks always beside you?
When I count,
there are only you and I together “
T. S. Eliot, “The Waste Land”
Gods and Devils
Deal the cards
The Angels watch
The Kings try hard
Inner Demons
May block their way
If Kings stand alone
They may not stay
Win or Lose
They must go on
For when they stop
Their life is gone
Life and Death
Come for us all
And in the end
We all will fall
“I Tiresias,
old man with wrinkled dugs
Perceived the scene,
and foretold the rest –
I too awaited
the expected guest.”
–T. S. Eliot, “The Waste Land”

Anjkan – Queen of Cups
